Following these 5 must know secrets will help you focus on projects and ensure you have the most productive day ever.
The overall key to having a productive day involves planning ahead and setting your day up for success. This list will help you put in place systems that will make certain that you are less distracted and actually get sh*t done!
It is now well known that many of the most productive and successful people have morning routines to start their day. Though it is great to use these as inspiration it is even more important to adjust to best suit your needs.
It is important to design a morning routine that works for you! This should include anything YOU need to do to help you get energized and ready for the day.
Of course this will look different for everyone but below I have listed a few ideas of things you may want to include:
- Make your bed
- Take a cold shower
- Enjoy a cup of coffee
- Drink a glass of water
- Spend a few minutes being grateful
To Do List
Take a few minutes to organize and list out your tasks for the day.
By doing so you can prioritize what tasks are more important and plan to do these when you are more alert.
Writing out your tasks can also help declutter your mind and reduce stress related to remembering what you need to get done.
Pro Tip: Ideally this should be done the night before or first thing in the morning. Start by writing done 3-5 task that are non-negotiable and have to get done by end of the day.
Batch Similar Tasks
Batching similar tasks reduces the time you spend mentally switching and focusing on projects.
Essentially, by doing this you are allowing yourself to focus on one thing at a time rather than trying to multitask and losing your focus and thought process while doing so.
In the moment multitasking can feel like you are getting more done, but realistically it can result in you taking a much longer time to do a simple task.
A great example of this is emails. I recommend dedicating set times to respond to emails (unless its urgent) rather than being reactive as soon as you see a new one in your inbox.
However you decide to implement this into your life I’m sure it will help you be more productive.
This is one of the best methods to help you get into the flow of working. The Pomodoro Technique promotes working in 25 minute focus intervals with 5 minute breaks, this is repeated for four focus sessions then a longer break can be taken.
This is a simple but EFFECTIVE technique that can help you focus on any task. It can also be adjusted to longer focus sessions if this works better for you.

Get enough rest
Sleep deprivation is real and it does not help with productivity! (says the girl writing this blog post at 11pm)
Nonetheless, I think we all know by now the importance of sleep for our overall health and wellbeing. So I’m not here to repeat everything you’ve most likely learned in school or from your parents.
But I am going to stress the importance of having a night routine as well! (if you can’t tell I love my routines) If you struggle with turning your thoughts off and getting enough rest at night, like I do, I highly encourage you to add these to your night routine:
1. Put your phone on Do Not Disturb (turn off notifications)
2. Play calming music as you get ready for bed.
