Top Shelf
I’m no interior design expert, but I’m all about making things look cute but still be functional for everyday use. When styling my kitchen open shelves I was sure to take into account the fact that I’m a shorty (5’2). So I knew putting anything I intend to use often on the top shelf was a definite NO! Instead, I added some candles, aesthetic cookbooks and some other fun things I wouldn’t need to grab every day.
I would suggest using any hard to reach shelves for decor or items you won’t reach for often. A few other tips include :
- Sticking to a color scheme
- Don’t over crowd the space – this can cause the shelves to look cluttered
- Play with textures
- Use a mix of heights, shapes and sizes to add interest

Bottom Shelf
For the bottom shelf, I opted for things that just made sense like plates, mugs, bowls and dish towels. I added a plate rack to give it some layers and interest then worked within 3’s.
Not sure where I heard this but working in odd numbers is apparently more appealing to the eye, so I was sure to work in rule of three.
This shelve is for more daily use but I also added some height and mixed textures to make it a bit more fun.
Can’t wait to get creative with the top shelf during fall and the holiday months but for now pretty happy with this ☺️
